A bank holiday weekend diving at St Abbs on the Berwickshire coast, Britain’s first voluntary marine reserve. Four dives, to 24 m, in 11–12 °C water.
The rocks here are crammed with life. A lobster sat among the boulders, velvet swimming crabs raised their claws, and there was an edible crab and a hermit crab. Common sunstars, dahlia anemones and dead men’s fingers covered the rock, and a tiny nudibranch clung to the kelp. St Abbs’ most famous residents are its wolffish, and one peered out of its hole at us.
Shot on the Canon G9 X Mark II in its Fantasea housing, with an INON S200 and a Sea Dragon 2000.
