A week on Blue O Two’s M/Y blue Fin on the “Simply the Best” route: one way from Hurghada to Port Ghalib by way of the offshore marine parks, the Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone. Seventeen dives in six days, nearly all on nitrox, in 22–24 °C water.
The first day was an easy start: three shallow dives, the last of them at night, when a Spanish dancer was out crawling across the sand.
From then on it was the marine parks, heading south. Each day started with a dawn dive deep in the blue, to 35–38 m, followed by two more. Soft corals covered the slopes, and a Napoleon wrasse came in close to look us over. On the fourth day a scalloped hammerhead cruised past deep off the reef, and the RIB ride back went past a lighthouse on a lone reef. The last two days eased off with shallower reef dives.
