A week on Fuerteventura’s east coast, diving with Deep Blue Diving out of the marina at Caleta de Fuste.
Fourteen dives in six days, two or three a day and most of them deep: ten went past 27 m, the deepest to 34.5 m. The water was 21–22 °C, an Atlantic autumn rather than the tropics. On 2 October there was a night dive as well, to about 20 m.
The reef is dark lava rock, all ledges, overhangs and swim-throughs. Under the ledges were arrow crabs, a trumpetfish lying flat along the sand and a brown moray. Out in the blue, a trio of yellowmouth barracuda hung off the reef. On the last day a glasseye sat tucked under the rock in its red-and-silver bars, and the night dive turned up a bright red sea star in the torch beam.
Shot on a SeaLife Micro HD+, lit with a Sea Dragon 2000. The camera’s clock had reset itself on the first couple of days, so those shots aren’t matched to a dive. A few needed their colour cast trimmed.
