Dive 500 was the first dive of a week on Meedhupparu, on Bodu Thila in Raa Atoll. A thila is a reef pinnacle that rises from the atoll floor to just below the surface. It was an easy first dive of the week on nitrox: an hour, no deeper than 13.5 m, in 29 °C water. We knelt on the sand by a cleaning station while reef mantas came in overhead, close enough to see the spots on their bellies.
